Daily Obscure/Underrated Anime Recommendations Number Forty-Six
Ergo Proxy
(Story: Within the domed city of Romdo lies one of the last human civilizations on Earth. Thousands of years ago, a global ecological catastrophe doomed the planet; now, life outside these domes is virtually impossible. To expedite mankind's recovery, "AutoReivs," humanoid-like robots, have been created to assist people in their day-to-day lives. However, AutoReivs have begun contracting an enigmatic disease called the "Cogito Virus," which grants them self-awareness. Re-l Mayer, the granddaughter of Romdo's ruler, is assigned to investigate this phenomenon alongside her AutoReiv partner, Iggy. But what begins as a routine investigation quickly spirals into a conspiracy as Re-l is confronted by humanity's darkest sins.)

Also, the studio behind this anime is Manglobe; the same studio behind Deadman Wonderland, Samurai Champloo, Gangsta, Michiko to Hatchin which i recommended before,etc. Also, Re-l is a queen. Mushishi
(Story: "Mushi": the most basic forms of life in the world. They exist without any goals or purposes aside from simply "being." They are beyond the shackles of the words "good" and "evil." Mushi can exist in countless forms and are capable of mimicking things from the natural world such as plants, diseases, and even phenomena like rainbows.
This is, however, just a vague definition of these entities that inhabit the vibrant world of Mushishi, as to even call them a form of life would be an oversimplification. Detailed information on Mushi is scarce because the majority of humans are unaware of their existence.
So what are Mushi and why do they exist? This is the question that a "Mushishi," Ginko, ponders constantly. Mushishi are those who research Mushi in hopes of understanding their place in the world's hierarchy of life.
Ginko chases rumors of occurrences that could be tied to Mushi, all for the sake of finding an answer.
It could, after all, lead to the meaning of life itself.)

(Story: In an alternate timeline, the world has seemingly achieved peace. Bereft of international conflicts, wars are now waged between private corporations in place of peaceful nations. Yuuichi Kannami, a recent transfer in Area 262, simply does his job as a contracted fighter pilot. However, the more time he spends at his new base, the more mysteries come to light.)
(Genre: Drama, Philosophy, Military, Award Winning, Science Fiction)
(Released 2008; 2hr 2min movie: PG-13)
(Notes: I know THIS one is definitely underrated; AND it's directed by Mamoru Oshii, the director of the original, classic Ghost in the Shell (1995). For his work, Oshii has received and been nominated for numerous awards, including the Palme d'Or and Leone d'Oro (Golden Lion). He has also attracted praise from many directors, including James Cameron, Steven Spielberg and The Wachowskis, especially for his work on Ghost in the Shell. So, this movie definitely has merit to it and is worth looking into. It may be more slow and introspective than anything but It's great to me just be patient.) Read Note

(Story: Escaped convict Michiko Malandro may look attractive, but she has a deadly disrespect for the officers trying to track her down. While on the run, fate -- in the form of a mysterious man from her past -- brings her together with hapless orphan Hatchin, who has reached her breaking point due to the actions of her foster parents' sadistic offspring. Being pursued by police, the duo head through exotic locations where danger lurks at every turn. Michiko and Hatchin are partners in crime on the lam who are chasing a dream, and they won't stop running until they achieve it.)

(Notes: I love love LOVE this anime. It has gotten some attention in recent years but still feels highly underrated I love it with all my heart and the characters are so great oml i kinda wish it was longer. And it was produced by THE Shinichirō Watanabe; who is best known for directing the critically acclaimed and commercially successful anime series Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo; both of which are absolutely amazing shows as well. Fun Fact: Michiko's design was based off of the African-American R&B singer Aaliyah. Also, Aaliyah was an amazing singer and music artist; gone too soon R.I.P. her songs are classics and i grew up with em) Read Note

Birdy the Mighty (Tetsuwan Birdy) OVA
(Story: Tsutomu, an average middle school kid busy studying for the final exams to enter high school runs into a man running from someone and gets caught up in the chase. In all the confusion he is accidentally killed. Luckily Birdy (an interplanetary agent) knows a way to save him, unfortunately that means joining bodies to become one. So now he is stuck with this officer and along for the ride capturing criminals and saving lives.)
(Genre: Action, Science Fiction, Comedy)
(Released 1996; 4 episodes, TV-14; for older audiences)
(Notes: Again, love the art style. Old anime had great style. Great action and animation. Also, can i say i love Birdy's facial expressions and animation? This is a weird tangent but her expressions aren't overly cutesy? like, i'm not knocking on making anime girls remain cute when they emote but hers feel more..uh..real? Unique? if that makes sense. I'm bad at explaining. I'm glad they give her shots where she smiles like a maniac is what i'm saying. And not in the cutesy yandere kind of way most shows do now if that makes sense. It feels more natural. Fun fact: this OVA was animated by Madhouse. The same animation studio responsible for animating the first season of One Punch Man, the original Trigun, Hunter x Hunter 2011, Perfect Blue, Black Lagoon, Parasyte, Wolf Children, Death Note, the first Beyblade anime, etc. Also, Birdy's japanese voice actress is Kotono Mitsuishi: voice of Sailor Moon/Usagi in the original Sailor Moon series as well as Sailor Moon Crystal, Boa Hancock from One Piece, Misato from Evangelion, and Tae Yamada from Zombie Land Saga. Also there is a reboot of Birdy the Mighty called Birdy the Mighty: Decode but I'd say that one is for much older audiences too but it's also pretty underrated.) Read Note
