Rozen Maiden
(Story: The story follows Jun Sakurada, a middle school student who withdrew from society after suffering persecutions from his classmates. Following his withdrawal, he is chosen to become the master to a Rozen Maiden named Shinku. Rozen Maidens are seven sentient porcelain dolls who compete against each other to become a perfect doll dubbed as Alice.)
(Genre: Fantasy, Supernatural, Drama, Action, Comedy)
(Released 2004; 12 episodes + more series; PG-13)
(Notes: Colorful cast? Check. Lots of charm. Yup. It isnt perfect but it's fun! A lot of people don't talk about this one I've noticed but I'm talking about it now. Its also got an interesting concept! And it's short and sweet so it won't take up too much of your time. Although, I'll say, while i dont hate the OP song personally..i can take it or leave it.) Sakamichi no Apollon (Kids on the Slope)
(Story: The series follows Kaoru Nishimi, an introverted high school student who discovers jazz music through his friendship with his delinquent classmate Sentarō Kawabuchi.)
(Genre: Coming-of-Age, Romance, Slice of Life, Drama)
(Released 2012, 12 episodes, PG-13)
(Notes: Surprised this one is as underrated as it is. It's real nice and cozy and the jazz is great. It's a nice one to chill out to despite some of the more dramatic moments. The characters are likeable as well. And yes, this is another MAPPA one. But Tezuka Productions also worked on it. Y'know , the same studio behind Dororo, Quintessential Quintuplets, and the classics Black Jack and Astro Boy. And more absolute bops as OP and ED songs?? Must be my birthday.) Read Note

Daily Obscure/Underrated Anime Recommendations Thirty Three
Nanbaka
(Story: Nanba is the world's most formidable prison, built to incarcerate criminals who are too slippery to stay in ordinary confinement. The four inmates who occupy Cell 13 are particularly cunning on that behalf, having escaped every other prison with a perfect success rate. There is Juugo, a specialist in locks who has spent the majority of his life in prison; Uno, a gambler with great intuition; Nico, an otaku whose body reacts strangely to substances; and Rock, a bruiser with a love for food. The daily shenanigans of the four prisoners always cause trouble for the building supervisor, Hajime Sugoroku, who desperately tries to prevent them from breaking out of Nanba.
Nanbaka follows the comedic, sparkle-filled exploits of these prisoners and their guards. From three square meals a day to sports festivals, prison life in Nanba isn't actually that bad—and it is the closest these four have to a home.)
(Genre: Comedy, Action)
(Released 2016; 13 episodes in the first part and 12 in the second part)
(Notes: They're so sparkly i love them. do i love this show? yes. do i wish there was more? yep. do i simp for Rock and Uno? also yes. Also, the anime studio behind this, Studio Satelight, is also responsible for the first few seasons of Fairy Tail before they switched animation studios, Hellsing Ultimate, Shugo Chara, the first Fairy Tail movie Phoenix Priestess, Cannon Busters, and Earth Maiden Arjuna which was one of my first anime recommendations here. I feel like Nanbaka is pretty slept on. at the very least, any popularity it had is kinda gone so yep) Read Note

Shamanic Princess
(Story: From the Guardian World, home of mages, Tiara has been sent on a mission: recover the stolen Throne of Yord, the most powerful magic artifact of all. But Tiara finds herself in a dilemma—the Throne has been taken by her former lover, and there is more to the situation than meets the eye...)
(Genre: Drama, Action, Romance, Fantasy, Magical Girl)
(Released 1996; OVA; 6 episodes)
(Notes: The only real thing to worry about here is fanservice and violence and some disturbing imagery? yes, dark magical girl anime existed before madoka magica, i think people forget how dark even Sailor Moon could be at times. Like, it got real dark at times but i digress. I love this retro anime art style and i love just..the overall aesthetic of this show tbh. I'd say this is okay for...16 and older? idk..) Read Note

City Hunter (1st series; also a flashing lights/colors warning)
(Story: The adventures of Ryo Saeba, a gun-for-hire living in the Tokyo metropolis with his partner; the willful tomboy Kaori Makimura to keep him in line.)
(Genre: Action, Detective, Comedy, Mystery, Drama)
(Released 1987; 51 episodes for the first series - the one i watched)
(Notes: Yes, it is a product of its time; the 80s, it was a different time and I'm not saying that makes it okay, but i just can't help but love the series, the characters, the art and aesthetic. And yes, this series was animated and produced by Sunrise; the studio behind Code Geass, the original Cowboy Bebop anime, Inuyasha, Love Live, etc. I personally love City Hunter even though i recognize some of it didn't age well. Are the OP and ED songs certified classics and bops? yes they are. Is Kaori best girl? also yes. I would say this show is okay for older teens?.. Closer to 17 at the very least and older. City Hunter also has multiple series, movies, spin-offs, and adaptations. You can find it on RetroCrush for free, PlutoTV for free, Crunchyroll, Roku Channel (?), and on Apple TV.) Read Note
