MADE. IN. ABYSS. The world setup is cliché at first (Lil kid and her robo-friend goes on a journey to find her mum) but as you explore deeper the complexity of it's society and ecosystem will blow your minds. The plot is very well built and packs quite some surprising twists throughout the series, but the pacing can be pretty awkward at some parts. Most importantly DON'T be fooled by it's cover. The most attractive aspect of the series is how it can make you feel that the adventure is glimmering with happiness and hope, then plunge all that emotion into the abyss (see what i did there [厲害]) This contradiction between the pure and moe protagonists and the cruel and unforgiving world will make you feel all the more immersed in this wonderful anime experience.

Btw there's also a phenomebal OST and a fluffy treasure[怪笑][怪笑]

(Notes: This is one where you've probably seen a chatracteror two before but you've never seen the show. Well, I'm here to officially recommend it. And I haven't mentioned this before but i get the story/synopsis from MyAnimeList since... I'm bad at summarizing things. I'll go off on a tangent and add irrelevant crap. Anyway, did you know this series won the Animage Anime Grand Prix in 1990? AND it's Studio Gainax's FIRST ever anime. Remainder: Gainax is responsible for Neon Genesis Evangelion, Royal Space Force, Gunbuster, Kare Kano, FLCL, Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi, Gurren Lagann, Corpse Princess, Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt, Medaka Box and Re: Cutie Honey. I like this one. It's cozy, charming, fun and the story and characters are great. Again, retro anime art style is peak. 10/10. This show needs way more love. So check it out if you can. It's on Crunchyroll, Sling TV, Apple TV, Vudu, RetroCrush i think [BTW RetroCrush is a free service that let's you watch old/classic/retro anime. It's where I found City Hunter, Gokudo and Kimagure Orange Road ; which are other shows I've recommended before. Check it out.], Amazon Prime Video if i remember correctly and there may be more but if i find more I'll edit this.) (Notes: Bruh this is trippy but in a good way. a GREAT way actually. This show is actually amazing. A true gem and another banger from MADHOUSE. It was directed by Masaaki Yuasa. You may be familiar with his other work, Masaaki Yuasa is a Japanese director, screenwriter, and animator affiliated with Science SARU, a Japanese animation studio which he co-founded with producer Eunyoung Choi in 2013. Recognized for his idiosyncratic art style and directorial voice, Yuasa began his career as an animator on the landmark television series Chibi Maruko-chan (1990–1992) and Crayon Shin-chan (1992–present), before moving into directing with the feature film Mind Game (2004) and developing a cult appeal following.
Yuasa spent much of the 2000s and early 2010s working in television directing, helming a trio of series, Kemonozume (2006), Kaiba (2008), and The Tatami Galaxy (2010), before releasing the crowdfunded short film Kick-Heart (2013).

(Notes: This was one of those Netflix Originals that no one really brings up. It had mixed reviews but i think it was nice. And it's super short so a viewing isn't gonna hurt anyone. It definitely isn't perfect but i love the animation and art direction and i personally think the cast is very likeable. The story isn't overly complicated and it doesn't need to be. It's simple and a nice time passer. Despite its flaws, I'd recommend taking a look at it. I feel like it was kinda forgotten. It isn't the best but i think it's fun.)
