【Study of Today】Anime Dominated 2021! Here Is The Evidence!

I say it with strong confidence, Anime Ruled Japan in 2021!
The proof? The top five movies of Japan’s box office are all anime related. Let’s do a quick rewind on the anime movies of last year and vote for your favorite!

At the beginning of the year, even with an insane 12 weeks number one box office record, the heat of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train is finally stopped by Gintama: The Very Final.

Gintama paid its respect, and of course did gag at the same time by gifting Demon Slayer illustrated cards.

Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time soon took the lead and stayed on top for most of 2021, even beating Detective Conan: The Scarlet Bullet, which the anniversary movies are incredibly popular in Japan.

Many say Detective Conan is like Marvel in Japan, different characters in every film but always a sure success.

Quality original anime movies were also present, Belle took the third place with its astonishing visual and music, combined with a touching story. 

Surprisingly, live action movies are strong in 2021 too, Tokyo Revengers and Rurouni Kenshin: The Final placed fourth and fifth place, showing to Netflix how live action should be done.

 Rurouni Kenshin even has two in 2021!

The next I would like to introduce did not even in the top 10, but sure carry a lot of historical meaning. As the Gundam series had its 40th anniversary last year, Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway's Flash is given to fans as a present, and the movie sure lives up to its name. Breaking the series’ box office record and bringing hope to all Gundam fans, the most popular robot anime is back!

That almost sums up the hit anime movie I want to introduce. Why almost? How can I rewind the anime movie of 2021 without mentioning the Jujutsu Kaisen 0: The Movie ? 

Being the second strongest opening for a film in Japan’s box office history and currently the 64th Highest Earning Film in Japanese Box Office History. Remember it's all accomplished within a month of its release, so the box office of Jujutsu Kaisen 0 still has a huge potential.
